Historic Hood River

This may not be the finest image but it’s fun when we can find the exact spot for a photo match.  Earl Conser was a summer intern with the engineers working to realign the Oregon Rail & Navigation Company railroad between Hood River and the Dalles.  In June of 1902 he captured this image of the brand new bridge over Chenoweth Creek.  It may not be so smooth and shiny now, but it looks like the same bridge abutments carry the rail across the creek 123 years later.  Next time you roll down that ramp onto I-84 in the Dalles think about Earl Conser and his coworkers at the same spot.
