This is the staging area for the Oregon Farm Bureau Federation participants in a July 4 parade. It’s also a fine view of the Hood River High School (now middle school) building. We know Hood River 4th of July celebrations started in the 1860s, and the parade tradition continues tomorrow. We’ll see how many horses participate this year.

That’s what the pool looked like when I took swim lessons there. We would ride the bus from my Grandparents house on Clear Creek Rd. and learn to swim.
So many horses, I love that!

I remember this area for a carnival or small circus event. Who was the fellow that had the popcorn/candy wagon during the summer at the pool?

Love the horses in the parade. One has to have a well trained horse to handle all the hoopla. My favorite is an old Hispanic gentleman who has a horse that hi steps and other things. It is absolutely beautiful, and must take a lot off work with the horse to get it so highly trained.
Hopefully the log trucks will be far away from the kids and animals. Or not honk at all. Hurts my ears.

Daryl and Ella May (?) Nichols drove the popcorn wagon for several years. He and his son were killed in a car accident in around 1966 on I-84.

The Lions Club usually puts on the parade & fireworks.
