I continue to be fascinated by how access to the Hood River White Salmon Bridge was maintained through almost the entire reconstruction process. This image shows a detail of the “splice” between the old/ new/ temporary traffic access. Hopefully people obeyed the “GO SLOW” sign better than they obey the current “15 MPH” signs.

The new 15 MPH speed limit on both the HR – WS bridge and Bridge of the Gods has folks in an uproar. Due to driving the speed limit I’ve been honked at many many times, and my car is lucky to still have its rear bumper intact. Oh, and several people (only men so far) have flashed the one-finger wave at me – so anxious to get across the bridges quickly. If a four minute drive across a spectacular river will make someone late for a very important date I say leave five minutes earlier and enjoy the beauty of the trip…and for heaven’s sake take a chill pill!
