Historic Hood River

Notes
This is the Fashion Livery stables on Front Street in Hood River circa 1910. The photographer must have been skilled to get the exposure right on a flash photograph in a dark stable. It looks like the name “WB Campbell” or “MB Campbell” is scrawled on the reverse. I don’t know if that refers to the subject of the photograph or something else. A 1920 edition of The Hood River Glacier shows payments from the county road fund to an MB Campbell.
There are some nice details on the image. Note the spittoon to the right, and all the various horse tack. The two images above the chalkboard on the left side appear to be famous racehorses. The building has had electricity installed (note the wires and insulators on the ceiling). I see a single light bulb right above the entrance.

Perhaps Madison B. Campbell. In 1910 he is in eastern Washington. His occupation is Liveryman. In 1920, he and his wife and eight children are living in Hood River. The census just states his occupation as Laborer.
He is buried in Idlewilde. His obituary says he is a retired blacksmith and farmer.
