Historic Hood River

The Butler Bank Company’ New Year’s message in the January 1, 1925 issue of The Hood River Glacier  went deep.  Not sure “some people think you’re all fools, so let’s try to be less foolish” is the sentiment we at the History Museum would like to share.  How about something simpler: “Here’s hoping for health and happiness in the New Year!”

1924 had been a big year for the Butler Bank.  They opened their new building at 301 Oak Street, and bank president Leslie Butler’s presided over the dedication of the Hood River White Salmon Bridge just weeks earlier.

The same issue of the newspaper reported Billy Sunday had taken delivery of a blue ribbon bull, 45 pairs of silver gray foxes were acquired by the Oregon Silver Fox Farms, which had a farm in Hood River, the Hood River Creamery set a production record, and almost 54 million board feet of lumber was cut in the county.
