Here’s another sign encouraging travelers to use the Hood River White Salmon Bridge. It’s from 1937. I’m not sure of the exact spot, but 2000 feet west of the bridge is just west of the Park and Ride, where the scenery flattens out a little. In 1937 the bridge approach was still on the south side of the railroad tracks, so this may be on some of the soon to be flooded land below the tracks.

so how many curves were on the Oregon side? I for one have no good memories of the trip on highway 30……

I wondered the same thing Arlen. I have heard stories, and I think Charlott was one, who told about getting car sick on the way to Portland.
Beautiful bottom ground that must now be under water.

I have vague memories of being car sick as a child on family trips from Portland to Yakima and back via the gorge in the early and mid-1960’s. My father had a 1956 Oldsmobile at the time. I remember the car would overheat and he was frequently stopping to put more water in the radiator. I also remember that as a child, it was always exciting to go through the tunnels and we were always waiting for the next one.
