Madeleine’s Monday artifact is in the spirit of the season:
As the leaves change color and the valley’s fruit trees are decorated with apples and pears once again, this week’s Madeleine’s Monday brings you a sturdy canvas fruit pickers bag from The History Museum’s collection. Likely from the 1930s, the bag displays green stenciling on the front that reads “Staley Orchard Hood River ORE.” There does not seem to be much on the history of Staley Orchards out there – does anyone have any information?

The only Staley Orchard I could find was Walter Irving Staley who lived in Marion County Oregon. I couldn’t find any orchard connection to Hood River, but he was involved with the Oregon Growers Association.
