Hood River orchardists, packing houses and canneries have worked for over a century to build brand recognition. Part of that brand is the label, which has developed into an art form of its own. Morganne’s Monday selection is a grouping of labels including apple brandy from Hood River Distillers, Improved Clark Strawberries from Trout Creek Growers, canned Bartlett pears from Diamond Fruit Growers, and pears from Stadelman’s Fruit Company.
Hood River Distillers, founded in 1934, is still around. Stadelman’s was recently acquired by Mount Adams Fruit. Diamond Fruit Growers, a growers’ cooperative founded in 1913, is also still around.

I only recently tried apple brandy for the first time two weeks ago and it was from HRD. I did some quick research to see if it could be used in a cocktail. I learned that it is the primary ingredient of a Jack Rose which Jake Barnes orders more than once in The Sun Also Rises.

Too bad Hemingway wrote the Sun Also Rises before HRD was founded, so we can’t speculate he drank HRD spirits.

I like these labels!!!! And I like how the city of Astoria used their fish packing history labels to adorn their trash cans. possible idea for HR?
