Notes
This was Ella May Davidson’s home on Serpentine Road, just west of Hazel. I pass by it every day but never thought to check if it matched any of her images. It is remarkably unchanged over the last century.

I think this might be the elder Mr. Davidson.

She would have been familiar with the view described by Marion Cook in “The Serpentine Road”:
Far up this road that overhangs the town,
I linger while the sun slips down to rest;

When I look at this house, I am left wondering whether the tetrahedron roof with chimney at the peak was common or unusual at the time. I wonder how the rooms were laid inside, and the location of the fireplace or stove that was connected to the chimney.

kmb,…..My old home (1905 built) has this exact layout. Tetrahedron roof w/chimney at apex. I think it was common at that time, because the chimney runs down to foundation (earth), and there are two ‘thimbles’ in chimney to connect wood appliances, one downstairs, one upstairs. Houses built in 1905 were not insulated, so staying warm in the winter, well two stoves going barely cut the ‘cold’…..!
