This is another image of the construction of the Green Point dam in the 1930s. I shared this because I was surprised at how modern the equipment looked. It’s amazing to me how quickly construction equipment evolved in the early 20th century.

I only saw my dad farm with tractors. When I was about thirty, I made the comment I would have no idea how to put a harness on a horse. My 55 year old dad replied that he could do it blindfolded.
All his growing up years he had farmed with a team of horses.
The change in farming equipment evolved rapidly.
I hope that little dog was watchful and evolved to another day.

WWI and WWII had huge impacts on such things:
– advancing technology
– massively increasing production capacity
– exposing huge numbers of service members to equipment still rare in the civilian world
– training large numbers in operation, maintenance, and repair of that equipment
– providing surplus, largely unused, equipment to civilians far and wide
– returning trained veterans to their communities to share their experience and knowledge, and to open businesses maintaining and selling equipment

My dad called this dragging a can.
D7 caterpillar with the cable unit controlling a Letourneau scraper, one of the most efficient ways to move large amounts of dirt. The smaller dozer keeping it level and dragging that compactor all day.
