What’s your guess? We have a few clues: Alva Day took this on October 22, 1927. Based on other images taken that day, he was hunting in the Blue Mountains.

Wonder if these beacons replaced the rotating towers.
In searching for this I see the Meacham rotating tower site still has the tower base with concrete arrow pointing toward Pendleton.

It doesn’t look like a weather station, but some kind of station must have reported the state’s all time record cold at Meacham.
This is a bit off of the topic, unless that thing was at the train station at Meacham. A few days ago there was a photo of the Bonneville area and I read about Grandma Munra and her famous restaurants for the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Co. They moved her from Bonneville to Meacham where she established another famous eating house.
She died before Alva Day had a chance to eat there.

There was an Airmail Beacon Light at Meacham, used by the Postal Service in the 1920’s.

But there are ponderosa trees all around it looks like, and that would impede the view, unless it was a river beacon.

LE, there is still a weather station where the Meacham airmail beacon once existed just east of Meacham. The light generator base remains with the concrete direction arrow pointing west to Emigrant Hill and Pendleton, it shows on acmemapper2.1 aerials, topos and maps..

Kenn, the photos I have found of those airmail beacons show the light up on a tall tower.
