Historic Hood River
20th Century Truck Farm

Notes
This is the exhibit for John Koberg’s 20th Century Truck Farm at the Hood River Horticultural Fair. We actually saw this cornucopia loaded on a truck for a trip to the fair in this image.
John Koberg grew row crops on the flat land south of Stanley Rock where I-84 now runs. We saw this view of his farm a while back. This map even shows where various crops were located.

We know how wonderful the crops are from Dickey Farms across the river in Bingen, so we can only imagine what the Koberg farm was like. I bet they had the best asparagus around…………….So sad it had to go by the wayside due to progress.

Good farm ground also seems to be the best location for highways, airports, hotels and Costco.

On the map, it looks like a reservoir on Stanley Rock?

Yes, the full map shows two reservoirs: one on the east and one on the west side of the area. I don’t know if the west reservoir was for drinking water at the pavilion or irrigating agriculture. I can’t see any signs of the reservoirs in the satellite view.
