That’s Floyd Mason doing “experiment station work”. They deployed 1200 paper sacks to protect their apples. I see some pear orchards still protect the fruit this way. Does anyone know if any apples are still grown in sacks?

They still ripen some Fuji apples in bags. It helps the color develop for the Japanese market.

I don’t know…My mother used to grow pears in bottles….

This is still a regular practice in Japan and can be seen even today in our sister city Tsuruta
